The highlight of our stay was having full-English breakfast it was the best English breakfast I had plus, camrambola fruit. It’s very common to see bananas, grapes, apples and oranges serve in the hotels restaurant, isn’t it?

I don’t expect to see carambola a tropical fruit on the table in one of London's hotels. That was additional points or let say a positive comments from the guest to have carambola after having full-English breakfast, it's very juicy and refreshing fruit.

The fruit is commonly found in the Philippines, Malaysia and other Southeast Asian countries.  Carambola in English also known Balimbing in Filipino. I was 33 weeks pregnant and craving exotic fruits. I’m very lucky I found one in the hotel.

We have a wonderful stay and the next time we are going down to London. We definitely stay again at Hotel Bosco and recommend the hotel for all types of travellers who wish to visit London.

The hotel is located at 9 St. Marks Hill Surbiton, England KT6 4LQ United Kingdom  For more information visit their website : www.hotelbosco.co.uk

Marriott Hotel - Heathrow/Windsor

Marriott Hotel is one of the world-famous chain hotel. The Hotel is located at Ditton Road, Langley • Slough, SL3 8PT United Kingdom. It takes about 10 minutes’ drive by car going to the airport.

Here's the map

Marriott Hotel is a perfect accommodation when looking for hotels near Heathrow Airport. The hotel is much closed to local attractions like LEGOLAND, Windsor Castle, Thorpe Park Heathrow Academy, Ascot Racecourse, River Thames and Royal Windsor Racecourse, Windsor Great Park & Savill Gardens.

After long hours driving from the heart of the North West, we have to check-in quickly to get change and get ready, because we are going to meet friends at Chats Cafe Bar located in the lobby.

How was our experience?
General bedroom amenities are very good. We request a cot to our baby, when we get in the bedrooms there were 2 beds single and double bed I think we don't need a cot for our baby the bed is wide enough for her and there are plenty of pillows enough to make barrier to avoid falling on the floor.  She slept well and so as we. Perfect room temperature, soft pillows and nice bed. Room service was alright.

First thing in the morning we decided to take our daughter for walk just in and around Marriott Hotel. The hotel is spacious. For guest be aware with pay parking scheme on-site parking, fee:  £2 per hour, £9 daily. Parking £9 for 24 hours is for hotel guests only. That’s ridiculous price for parking fee. I think guest who stay in the hotel can get free parking or get some discounts. We don’t mind paying in Surbiton for £6 for daily parking when we stay in Hotel Bosco we understand that the hotel don’t have parking area. That’s acceptable, but having a massive car park for the guest to pay per hour or day is no good to me.

Winter Holiday: Day 3

Thursday, 12 January 2012 0 comments

The fog is covering the hills, road and even the lakes. The weather forecast says rain showers are expecting in the afternoon. The good news wind 24 km/hr and no show of snow.

The plan is we’re planning to have breakfast first thing in the morning at the Hot Mango Café. Quick shopping for some nibbles and drinks and then we are off to the Lake Side in The Lakes for cruising.

vegetarian omelette
The family had some breakfast at Hot Mango Café. I don’t fancy eating Full-English breakfast, so I ordered a vegetarian omelette and hot chocolate. It was absolutely divine.

Before I decided to order my food, I read the whole menu it’s quite impressive to serve such food in café. The way they describe the café is very convincing and very true of what they wrote on their menus. Come in, set down, order your food and eat. Then you can tell after eating your food that the day starts at The Hot Mango Café for breakfast. "I wish every day is holiday.”- Jenny O’Toole

Whilst my husband and daughter is having there breakfast, I stealthy way off to the shop for energetically shopping for nibbles and drinks to take with us on the way to the lakes. It will be a long day for the family, since it was our last day in Ulverston.

“I believe it’s more practical to take some bits and bobs for travelling specially you have kids and out all day.” Other reason is kids always want something to eat and to keep them quiet at the same time, whilst parents are enjoying the views.

Stunning

My husband and I we’re agreed to meet in the house then set off to the Lake Side for cruising. Everybody is in the car, seatbelts on, playing Bob Marley’s records, starting the car and off we go.

Flock of geese can you count them?

That is stunning.

I like this picture.

When we arrived at the Lake Side we first check the time schedule. We arrived too early, an hour and half before the next boat. We purchase tickets for the two, kids under 5 goes free which is good news and then come back later on enough time to explore.

We don’t want to go far because we don’t want to miss the boat trip. Instead, we went to our favourite place The Swan Hotel and SPA. We park the car near to the marina, we can see flock of geese swimming and standing at the picnic area of The Swan.

As we walk further the views are stunning. We took some nice photographs. Where is the time gone? We spend an hour for walking and taking photos. It’s time to go back in the car and back to the lake side, half an hour before the boat arrives, enough time to grab some hot drinks and use the toilet before boarding the boat.

There are few passengers on-board, no wonder its winter. Who wants to go for cruising in winter? From the Lake Side the boat goes to Bowness-on-Windimere, where we had shopping yesterday.

Inside the boat we sat on the left side there is another African- British family with three kids on the right side. After we had some to nibbles and drinks, our Pearl who is very generous she went to the right side and share her sweets with the kids. The Parents of that kids are very happy and so as we.

Arrived in Bowness-on-Windimere we start walking and wandering around town centre area. Our tummy start rumbling, but we don’t want to have heavy meal because we book the Farmers Restaurant for dinner. We keep walking till we find a café for afternoon tea.

Afternoon tea

Hotel's lobby

Lake District during winter the hills are covered with snow.

That's the view from the lobby of Old England Hotel and SPA

My husband said to me the first time we’ve been in the Lake District he took his mum for afternoon tea at Macdonald The Old England Hotel and SPA.

We get inside and have a look around. It’s too posh for afternoon tea for me, but the view from the lobby over-looking the lakes is absolutely stunning. We decided to stay and order some afternoon tea for two to share. The price of afternoon tea-set is like having 3 course meals in normal restaurant, but it’s worthy. Presentation is excellent, cups, saucers and tea pot are not porcelain from China, the sandwiches, salads, scones, jam and cakes are very tasty and the tea is very refreshing.

Off to the pier to get the boat, when were in the boat I asked my husband if he pay for parking? He said no. OMG! I hope they did not tow away the car or else we will spend fortunes for taxi back home.

When we arrive we quickly check the car. I checked the car I thought it’s ours it was the hotel’s manager’s car. I start panic where is car. My husband shouted at me it’s here. I’m glad the car is there and without notice slip.

Back home everybody is happy and had a lovely time. Speaking of time half seven for dinner, to kill the time were all watching telly in the living room. Then off to the Farmers for dinner. The dinner is worth waiting for 3 nights. Great food with lovely ambiance, I highly recommend the restaurant to all future travellers and locals for great dining experience. Shame on I have no pictures to show how beautifully they presented the food.
Lake Side Hotel at night

That night was the end of our winter holiday. The highlight of our 3 days winter holidays was Pearl shared her sweets with other kids. It makes us proud and very happy parents.

I have learnt that travelling (holiday) doesn’t need to be luxurious and expensive. For me it’s all about family time, bonding each other, sharing one another and enjoys every single minute of it. And that’s how I describe the word HOLIDAY.

Winter Holiday: Day 2

Wednesday, 11 January 2012 0 comments

To start our day 2 winter holiday we all get up early and get ready to kick-off. We left the house at 8:30 walking to the Farmers Pub and Restaurant for breakfast.

The Farmers Restaurant
Nice colours and style for a country-side restaurant.

I always start my day with coffee. My husband and I ordered 2 medium size cappuccino, a full English breakfast for myself and to share with Pearl and a continental breakfast for him.

Whilst waiting for the food we ordered, sipping the coffee gives us an idea of what we are going to do for the rest of the day. Since we are not yet finish for our Christmas shopping. We decided to do it on that day.
cappuccino
Full-English Breakfast
The breakfast was lovely. The ambiance of the restaurant is beautiful and fab.
It start raining when were about to leave The Farmers, from the farmers we walk on the way to the market of Ulverston.

When we get there it’s nice and warm, the market smells aromatic coffee from the coffee shop inside the market.
Ulverston Market

We found a book shop when we entered the market and I found a traveller’s book from the old travellers with old maps. My husband likes it we both think it is perfect Christmas gift to his dad and we buy children books for Pearl.

Pearl start wriggling and complaining she wants to get out and run and go for a ride. We let her have a go for ride just to keep her entertain and so my husband can read the book properly and buy them as well.

When we left the market we were wandering around the town of Ulverston I don’t see nice shops were I can get Christmas gifts for my in-laws, my husband nephews and nieces. So we decided to go back in the house to get the car and drive to Bowness-on-Windemere.
Fat Face Bowness-on-Windemere, Cumbria

We park the car, Pearl on the buggy and we start walking up hill the shops. We went first to Fat Face shops I get 3 items for 3 people. Opposite to the shops is Joules very nice shops it breaks my heart when I saw nice twiggy jackets for young lads and for myself lovely winter boots. Since it wasn’t in my list I better go out and do more shopping for family and friends gifts.

There are loads of nice shops in and around Bowness-on-Windemere. It was the perfect destination for lovely Christmas gift, definitely!
Gift Shops Bowness-on-Winderemere

Joules Bowness-on-Windemere

After long hours of walking and shopping we decided to have an afternoon tea at Byron’s Shop and Tearoom in Royal Square, Bowness-on-Windemere, Cumbria.

We had a pot of Bryson’s own Cumbria blend. It was absolutely divine, great taste, smooth and aromatic perfect match with Victoria sponge cake.

Cakes and confectioneries to go.

Byron’s Shop and Tearoom in Royal Square, Bowness-on-Windemere, Cumbria.

It’s was 4:00 o’clock in the afternoon and its gone dark, Oh well, that’s winter brings.
We are on our way to the car park to get the car and got home about half an hour drive. Stay for 2 hours in the house to get some rest then wait till dinner time.

My husband decided to go for pub hopping. Pearl and I stay in the house and watch some Christmas program. Unfortunately, I left my phone in our house. We agreed to meet in The Farmers for tea at 7:00 enough time for me and Pearl to get ready.

Pearl is getting ready to go out.
Pearl and I left the house at 6:45pm enough time for travelling. The pub and restaurant are busy, as we get in The Farmers my husband wasn’t there. I was dead worried of him. I stay outside the restaurant to get some fresh air.

The road is slippery as the snow starts melting from rain showers. It’s windy and freezing. I sat on a cold stainless chair outside the restaurant after 3 minutes there I saw my husband on his way to the restaurant.

I shouted “Mr. O’Toole look here!” I wave my hand and smile. He saw me and smile back. C’mon we’ve been here for about a quarter. I was dead worried about you.
So we get in I feel a bit hungry. I looked at the board on the top of the gas fire restaurant special. Reading the menu makes me starving.

We spoke to the manager. We haven’t booked a table. Unfortunately, we can’t dine in the restaurant. The manager gives us some recommendations of restaurant that is closed to the area and similar menus.

We stayed in the pub have some hot cider and look each other. I said to my husband go speak to them and book a table for tomorrow night at half seven. We finish the cider and start walking to the restaurant and pub as the manager suggested.

Thai curry with rice, chips and salad

Mussels and prawns in cream sauce serve with chips.

It was 17th century style of pub and restaurant not very nice as I expected but it was alright.
We had drinks first whilst waiting for the food. The food is unbelievable. The portion is massive. It was absolutely nice. I really enjoyed my main course which is duck green Thai curry with rice, chips and salad to share with Pearl.
My husband had some mussels and prawns in cream sauce serve with chips. Honestly, because of the portion they serve we couldn’t eat chips with bottle of white wine.
Finish with dessert. I couldn’t ask for more. We walk on the way home full and knackered.
Pearl goes straight to bed and we had a bottle of red in the living room whilst watching Michael Bubblé on the telly on his Christmas specials.
