Mont-St-Michel Escapades

Friday, 17 February 2012 23 comments

The Mont-St-Michel is most visited tourist attractions apart from Eiffel Tower in Paris, France. Stunning gothic-style Benedictine abbey dedicated to the archangel Saint Michael located in the lower part of Normandy Region in France.

The Mont-St-Michel and its bay – is one of UNESCO list of world heritage. A must see and visit attraction in Normandy.

When its high tides it looks like floating Cathedral. The track way is covered by water and uncovered at low tide.

What to expect?
  • Expect for stunning cultural attractions, from country side to sea side.
  • Exciting road trips and thousands of souvenir shops to stops.
  • Expect for nice Cafés, hotels and restaurants in the community.
  • Expect for long walk and climbing.

Taken inside the car

How was our visit?

The weather was awful when went to Mont-St-Michel. We go by car and paid 6 euros for car parking. The attraction is free. The good thing that time we did not take the pram with us or else it would be nightmare. It’s was hard work for the both of us to go there just imagine carrying my daughter in my shoulder whilst climbing up to the abbey. It’s like sacrifice for me just to enter to the Cathedral it was worth of going. It’s beautiful inside and outside.

To end our day tour we had lovely meal from La Mére Pourlard  an 18th century hotel and restaurant with famous wall of autographs from over a century of famous diners, including Ernest Hemingway and Yves Saint-Laurent. Best to try their house cidré  it's the best! Another unforgettable adventure we had.

Travel Tips
Best to go in summer and don't forget to check the weather forecast and best to go during low tide.

How to get there?
By car or by bus. And it takes almost 4 hours travelling from Paris to Mont-St-Michel. We were lucky enough we stayed in the same region and took us an hour to travel.

Whilst waiting for the food I decided to draw my husband and daughter.

Wedding photoshoot in Eiffel Tower Paris

Thursday, 19 January 2012 6 comments

Seriously speaking these Japanese couple took our attention when we leave the Eiffel tower. I took this photo at Parc du Champ de Mars. The photographer is facing the iconic tower which behind the couple to captured perfect angle.

The bride looks stunning and the groom looks very smart. The dress and the suit they wore look very expensive in my eyes. How much more the cost of the wedding in Paris? Must be dead expensive! They take travelling seriously, aren’t they?

That's us!
I’ve heard few love stories of couples going to Paris for engagement, honeymoon, climbing up the top of the tower and made promises to each other and etc. I confess to you my brothers and sisters that my husband and I climb up to the top and had champagne and made promises in front of our ever dear daughter Pearl.

When I look back on my wedding photos and and recieve positive comments I tell them “Everyone has the right to be bride and there are only few brides are destined to become a princess”. Is that you Kate Middleton? No, it's me Inday Jenny Jayon - O'Toole.

Notre Dame Paris

Tuesday, 17 January 2012 2 comments

Our lady of Paris

One summer afternoon at Notre Dame de Paris with The O'Tooles

Notre Dame de Paris in French located at 6 Parvis Notre-Dame, Place Jean-Paul II, 75004 Paris, France.

Taken from the boat.

That's stunning except the 2 tourist standing.

Some nice architectural details of the cathedral.

A gothic, Roman Catholic Cathedral and one of the world’s famous, historic and most visited cathedrals. Its finest French gothic architecture attracts more tourists to visit the said cathedral.

I can’t imagine myself going there as I know Paris, France is one of the most expensive cities in the world to visit. I have no budget to go there.

Yet, when I married to Ian who was a devoted catholic, who been in that cathedral many times singing in the choirs, when he was in primary school with his brother and best mates.

He took us (my daughter and I) last summer (2011) he was our tour guide. He says to me every time he comes in the cathedral he will cry especially to see Mother Theresa. By the way he went St. Teresa primary school in England. It makes sense to me why he cried for Mother Theresa in Notre dame.

My Ian and Pearl

And another Ian and Pearl outside plus 1 tourist who don't want to move out.

And agian yours truly with exusted Pearl on the boat with fantastic views.

I, myself is devoted catholic who wish to come and see some stunning cathedral like Notre dame. It was a dream comes true for me. We wish to attend at least one mass. But we couldn’t make it because we haven’t enough time to stay in Paris, 4 days isn’t enough to do things like going to the mass. As thousands of attractions and sceneries is waiting for us out-side.

The dimly lit interior.

My camera don't work well in the dark.

If you wish to visit Paris don’t forget to visit the Notre dame its worth of visiting it’s absolutely free unless you wanted to purchase coin souvenir inside the church or drop few coins for your donations it would be helpful for the parishioner and their chosen charity. It was a great day for the three of us.

Marriott Hotel - Heathrow/Windsor

Marriott Hotel is one of the world-famous chain hotel. The Hotel is located at Ditton Road, Langley • Slough, SL3 8PT United Kingdom. It takes about 10 minutes’ drive by car going to the airport.

Here's the map

Marriott Hotel is a perfect accommodation when looking for hotels near Heathrow Airport. The hotel is much closed to local attractions like LEGOLAND, Windsor Castle, Thorpe Park Heathrow Academy, Ascot Racecourse, River Thames and Royal Windsor Racecourse, Windsor Great Park & Savill Gardens.

After long hours driving from the heart of the North West, we have to check-in quickly to get change and get ready, because we are going to meet friends at Chats Cafe Bar located in the lobby.

How was our experience?
General bedroom amenities are very good. We request a cot to our baby, when we get in the bedrooms there were 2 beds single and double bed I think we don't need a cot for our baby the bed is wide enough for her and there are plenty of pillows enough to make barrier to avoid falling on the floor.  She slept well and so as we. Perfect room temperature, soft pillows and nice bed. Room service was alright.

First thing in the morning we decided to take our daughter for walk just in and around Marriott Hotel. The hotel is spacious. For guest be aware with pay parking scheme on-site parking, fee:  £2 per hour, £9 daily. Parking £9 for 24 hours is for hotel guests only. That’s ridiculous price for parking fee. I think guest who stay in the hotel can get free parking or get some discounts. We don’t mind paying in Surbiton for £6 for daily parking when we stay in Hotel Bosco we understand that the hotel don’t have parking area. That’s acceptable, but having a massive car park for the guest to pay per hour or day is no good to me.

Wedding at Wentworth Golf Club

World class golf club and has world class golfer playing in the club. One of England’s best golf clubs, Wentworth is not all about golf they also offers other sports and leisure activities for all ages.

And also the club is open to all members and non-members who wish to choose the place for wedding venues.

It was my first time to attend an English Wedding. A friend of ours gets married 2 years ago. They had church wedding and they choose Wentworth Golf Club for the venues.

We’re very lucky to stay in one of their rooms at the top of the Clubhouse. The room is massive, very pretty and exquisitely styled. From cups and saucers to towels and furniture are very impressive.

Good choice for the most memorable wedding. The grand ballroom is fitted with its elegant chandeliers and decorated with beautiful paintings. The table sittings, flower arrangement, lights and music and of course the food was amazing.

We had a lovely time on that night. The only problem for our stay was going to our room. The steps and the doors are very annoying. It’s like walking to maze before we get to our room. It was hard work for us going to the room because we have a baby. Carrying her in car-seat and carrying a luggage is not easy at all.

We had a lovely breakfast over-looking the golf course with a glorious weather. What else you want?

Over-all experience:

Very Good! This place is created for perfection. Wentworth Gold Club is located at Wentworth Drive, Virginia Water, Surrey GU25 4LS for more information visit their website : http://www.wentworthclub.com

Winter Holiday: Day 3

Thursday, 12 January 2012 0 comments

The fog is covering the hills, road and even the lakes. The weather forecast says rain showers are expecting in the afternoon. The good news wind 24 km/hr and no show of snow.

The plan is we’re planning to have breakfast first thing in the morning at the Hot Mango Café. Quick shopping for some nibbles and drinks and then we are off to the Lake Side in The Lakes for cruising.

vegetarian omelette
The family had some breakfast at Hot Mango Café. I don’t fancy eating Full-English breakfast, so I ordered a vegetarian omelette and hot chocolate. It was absolutely divine.

Before I decided to order my food, I read the whole menu it’s quite impressive to serve such food in café. The way they describe the café is very convincing and very true of what they wrote on their menus. Come in, set down, order your food and eat. Then you can tell after eating your food that the day starts at The Hot Mango Café for breakfast. "I wish every day is holiday.”- Jenny O’Toole

Whilst my husband and daughter is having there breakfast, I stealthy way off to the shop for energetically shopping for nibbles and drinks to take with us on the way to the lakes. It will be a long day for the family, since it was our last day in Ulverston.

“I believe it’s more practical to take some bits and bobs for travelling specially you have kids and out all day.” Other reason is kids always want something to eat and to keep them quiet at the same time, whilst parents are enjoying the views.

Stunning

My husband and I we’re agreed to meet in the house then set off to the Lake Side for cruising. Everybody is in the car, seatbelts on, playing Bob Marley’s records, starting the car and off we go.

Flock of geese can you count them?

That is stunning.

I like this picture.

When we arrived at the Lake Side we first check the time schedule. We arrived too early, an hour and half before the next boat. We purchase tickets for the two, kids under 5 goes free which is good news and then come back later on enough time to explore.

We don’t want to go far because we don’t want to miss the boat trip. Instead, we went to our favourite place The Swan Hotel and SPA. We park the car near to the marina, we can see flock of geese swimming and standing at the picnic area of The Swan.

As we walk further the views are stunning. We took some nice photographs. Where is the time gone? We spend an hour for walking and taking photos. It’s time to go back in the car and back to the lake side, half an hour before the boat arrives, enough time to grab some hot drinks and use the toilet before boarding the boat.

There are few passengers on-board, no wonder its winter. Who wants to go for cruising in winter? From the Lake Side the boat goes to Bowness-on-Windimere, where we had shopping yesterday.

Your's truly.

Windemere Marina

Inside the boat we sat on the left side there is another African- British family with three kids on the right side. After we had some to nibbles and drinks, our Pearl who is very generous she went to the right side and share her sweets with the kids. The Parents of that kids are very happy and so as we.

Arrived in Bowness-on-Windimere we start walking and wandering around town centre area. Our tummy start rumbling, but we don’t want to have heavy meal because we book the Farmers Restaurant for dinner. We keep walking till we find a café for afternoon tea.

Afternoon tea

Hotel's lobby

Lake District during winter the hills are covered with snow.

That's the view from the lobby of Old England Hotel and SPA

My husband said to me the first time we’ve been in the Lake District he took his mum for afternoon tea at Macdonald The Old England Hotel and SPA.

We get inside and have a look around. It’s too posh for afternoon tea for me, but the view from the lobby over-looking the lakes is absolutely stunning. We decided to stay and order some afternoon tea for two to share. The price of afternoon tea-set is like having 3 course meals in normal restaurant, but it’s worthy. Presentation is excellent, cups, saucers and tea pot are not porcelain from China, the sandwiches, salads, scones, jam and cakes are very tasty and the tea is very refreshing.

Off to the pier to get the boat, when were in the boat I asked my husband if he pay for parking? He said no. OMG! I hope they did not tow away the car or else we will spend fortunes for taxi back home.

When we arrive we quickly check the car. I checked the car I thought it’s ours it was the hotel’s manager’s car. I start panic where is car. My husband shouted at me it’s here. I’m glad the car is there and without notice slip.

Back home everybody is happy and had a lovely time. Speaking of time half seven for dinner, to kill the time were all watching telly in the living room. Then off to the Farmers for dinner. The dinner is worth waiting for 3 nights. Great food with lovely ambiance, I highly recommend the restaurant to all future travellers and locals for great dining experience. Shame on I have no pictures to show how beautifully they presented the food.
Lake Side Hotel at night

That night was the end of our winter holiday. The highlight of our 3 days winter holidays was Pearl shared her sweets with other kids. It makes us proud and very happy parents.

I have learnt that travelling (holiday) doesn’t need to be luxurious and expensive. For me it’s all about family time, bonding each other, sharing one another and enjoys every single minute of it. And that’s how I describe the word HOLIDAY.
