P&O Ferries To France From England

Tuesday 10 January 2012

My husband and I were planning a holiday to France for two weeks. This time we are going by car. We planned our routes and we both decided to get the ferry crossing from Dover, England to Calais, France.

There are different ways of crossing to France from England. Going by plane, train and ferries, I think getting on the ferry is such a luxurious experience with unlimited views, great shopping, dining, bar lounge and more amenities to use for all ages.

If we get the aeroplane or train, kids gets bored quickly so we try to avoid that part of our travelling. We want a happy holiday. I think it’s ideal and practical to travel to France by car and get the ferry to cross to Calais.

Ian – my ever dear husband booked the tickets on-line. Fares depend on the size of car and numbers of passengers. He paid £90 for the three of us including the car and taxes. And that’s good for round trip. It’s not much, isn’t it?

Travelling with children
It takes an hour and 15 minutes from Dover to Calais. Just enough time to set back relax, watching telly whilst having pint of beer. Have a bite to eat; quick shopping and let the kids have a run around.

Our over-all experience:

Fantastic! We did the right choice by getting the ferries. Safe, convenient and easy to check-in. No problem of getting off the ferry. The cost is reasonable with luxury experience. Everyone is a winner!

The highlight of our boarding on the way to Calais was relaxing in the lounge my husband is having a pint of beer whilst watching sports program. Well, he deserves it for driving about 5 hours from St. Helens to Dover. I had hot chocolate from Costa coffee and something to nibbles whilst daughter was fascinated with the views and lights over-looking the island of France and run around.

On the way back to Dover was we had lunch at the food court. If you’ve been in France for 2 weeks I bet you’re dying to have the traditional meal in England which is “fish and chips with mushy peas”. And then we went shopping for our love ones back home and finally we grab a pint of beer in the lounge area.
Dining experience

Take Note: Shopping in the ferries is tax-free so expect you get 30% off for wines and 40% off for fragrance and cosmetics a lot cheaper from high street prices. It’s like shopping in duty-free.

If you wish to travel to France from England the best adventure and great experience is getting the ferry.  You can drive and go wherever you wanted to go. You can take as many things you wanted to take with you whilst on holiday. Like food processor, set of knives, beer and more. Plus pets are welcome to on-board.

Bon Voyage!
