Pregnancy and Flying

Tuesday, 24 January 2012

Thinking about flying during pregnancy? It needs extra mindful for your health as well as your baby.
If you're pregnant you're allowed to fly as long as you haven’t experienced any complications during your pregnancy. You can fly between 28th weeks up to 36 weeks depends on the airline company.

What are the requirements?

Before you book your flights, you need to ask for Pregnancy Information Form. For single pregnancy you are allowed to travel between 28th weeks up 36th weeks.  If you’re expecting more than one baby you’re allowed to travel between 28th weeks up to 32nd weeks.

Take it to your doctor to fill out the Pregnancy Information Form. You can also ask other supporting documents from your doctor like pregnancy records, scan-results and etc.

Where I can get the Pregnancy Form?
You can download the form online or simply visit the airline company. It’s free of charge.

Don't forget if you don't want to miss your flights you should secure documents, because flying during pregnancy is more risky than being pregnant alone.

it's better to be extra careful when expecting, heard news of giving birth on plane...it will cause inconvenience not only to you, the baby and airline staffs but also to other passengers...

Giving birth on the plane would give your baby a lifetime of free airfare for the rest of his/her life. That is the unwritten rule of most airlines. Some airlines even provide for the education of the baby born inside their plane. That's why a lot of pregnant women fake their documents so they could give birth on the plane :) But please take note that the regulation doesn't exist and the airline are under no obligation to reward inflight deliveries from the stork.

  1. This is the first time that I hear this. I'm too naive when pregnancy and flying is concern. In fact, I've never been flown since I was born. So as with my wife. Anyway, thanks for this information, very informative so to speak.

I still believe that flying is one of the safest way to travel.
So formy future wife, if there is a need to travel,
better by plane than over land.

It sure is dangerous to fly being pregnant... I didn't hear any news about pregnant women having problems while flying but I think it will cause minor problems, hence.

I have to get myself pregnant again first before I can think about flying during pregnancy. Thanks for sharing, will keep this in mind when that time comes that I'll be travelling in all my pregnant glory.:)

  1. This post is very informative. There are some women who are very sensitive during pregnancy yet too stubborn to mind their conditions, riding planes when their doctors already told them not to do so. May this post guide them.

Markpogi - From my personal experience. I was 32 weeks pregnant I flew with Cebu Pacific from Davao to Manila then Manila to Hong Kong. I flew again from Hong Kong to London. I was almost 24 hours flight. Most airline companies are very strict with their rules. If you have no form sign by your doctor there will be no flights neither a refund.

I think the safest thing to so is not to fly at all. That way, you can be sure that both the baby and mother are safe.
